• Consulting

M42 is a specialized acoustics and audio consultancy that provides expertise in architectural acoustics, digital audio processing and loudspeaker design.

Under the stewardship of Peter Sutcliffe, P.Eng., an engineer with over 40 years experience, we work with architects and theatre consultants using a highly integrated approach that includes the design of both the architectural acoustics of the space and the electronic sound reinforcement systems required to produce lively performance soundscapes.

Working with the general shapes and preferred materials specified by the architect, we create an acoustical model of the space so that the optimal choice and placement of materials can be made by the architect. We specialize in adding the right acoustic elements and audio visual components to create spaces that are vibrant and aesthetically pleasing and where performances can come to life.

Peter also has a strong practical knowledge of acoustic building materials and building codes and works to improve the acoustical quality of living and work spaces by controlling the intrusion of exterior noise and the noise transmitted between spaces using sound isolating, absorbing and reflecting materials.

  • Loudspeaker Design

With the m42 Lyra we demonstrate what precision-engineering, meticulous attention to detail and a system level approach can achieve for loudspeaker development.

Wherever possible, we use natural materials and embrace a clean, timeless design aesthetic—ensuring each speaker looks as exceptional as it
sounds and deserves pride of place in your home.

Designed for people who love to listen music, we create expressive loudspeakers that honour the natural timbre, texture, and dynamics of musical instruments and voices.

Our master craftsman, Peter Sutcliffe, is a professional acoustics and audio engineer with more than 40 years of experience who earlier designed a unique series of speakers under the Esper brand in the early 1990s (including the E-601, E-808, and E-401). These speakers were widely praised for their distinctive aesthetic and their blend of accuracy, warmth, and musicality.
